Running for the Crown Jewel of the Emerald Necklace

On October 9, the BAA Half Marathon had it's start and finish in Franklin Park, the "crown jewel" of Boston's Emerald Necklace. For news, results, and complete details, please visit the Boston Athletic Association's webpage.

If you ran those 13.1 miles or if you just like to loop around Circuit Drive in Franklin Park, the Franklin Park Coalition strongly encourages you to consider joining our Marathon Charity Team. The FPC has a series of fun meetings and events and coaching provided by Mike Toomey of Toomey Sports Running Center. All money raised through the Marathon will benefit youth activities and athletics improvements in Franklin Park--which will in turn impact thousands of park users for years to come.

If there are any questions, please contact the Marathon Charity Team Leader, Julie Arrison, at julie@franklinparkcoalition.org. To apply for the team, please fill out the Application for the Franklin Park Coalition Marathon Charity Team for the 2012 BAA Boston Marathon.

Boston Marathon Qualification Notices

Qualified runners who registered for the 2012 BAA Boston Marathon began receiving their notifications. A "BQ" has become more meaningful than ever before. Because of the limited field of pariticpants allowed to run the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston, the Franklin Park Coalition hopes that you will consider running for the team.

Fifteen runners will have the chance to raise over $60,000 to support youth and athletic activities in Franklin Park. The team will be coaching by Mike Toomey of Toomey Sports Running Center in Salem, Mass., a clothing allotment will be awarded, and fun fundraising events are in the works. Short, team practice runs will be taking place in Boston's most beautiful green space and long runs will be supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

If there are questions about the team, please contact the Marathon Charity Team Leader, Julie Arrison, at julie.@franklinparkcoalition.org
